lĭrë’us [lɪ.re.ʔʊs] (n.) dolphin, lit. wave-dancer
from Middle Thirian lĭrëdĕmuts of same meaning (ts is affricate)
A tumblog on the constructed world & languages of yours truly (Jay). All content on this blog belongs to me, unless stated otherwise (or reblogged).
Current projects: High Thirian (conlang), the kingdom of Thir in my unnamed conworld.
Personal blog is alas-mypetticoats.
A few tips: "Thir" is pronounced [θiɹ]. Don't know IPA? "th" as "math", "i" as "feet", and "r" as in the standard American "r".
This has been an ongoing project for some years now, having at its origin a crudely sketched map and some tentative story ideas. Though I still plan on writing said story, it is first and foremost an exercise in conworlding. For the moment, anyhow.
Enjoy, and welcome to my mind.

One of the broader aspects in developing a conworld is giving its biomes some life. The existence of dragons was at the root of the concept for this world. But one of the things I take great pleasure in is developing realistic structures in a fantasy world. So my mind immediately turns towards serious considerations: What do the dragons eat? How do they reproduce? Where are they situated in the food web? How could I taxonomically classify dragons? Are they reptiles? Mammals? Neither? What about their skeletal structure?
All important considerations, and perhaps a post about how I went about answering those questions (not all of which are satisfactorily answered even now) will be written in the future. But by considering that, I also had to think about the other animals in this world of mine. Thus: conzoology.
skämun: [skɑ.mʊn] (n.) war mammoth, a mammoth that has been tamed and trained for battle
from Middle Thirian skämuntskï, compound of skä ‘war’ and muntaskï generic word for ‘mammoth’.
Damn, nature, you cool.
But seriously. TUSKS. LONG POINTY CANINES.
Am so tempted to give my Thirian elk/caribou/moose tusks now.
OMG. Carnivorous moose. Can you imagine? We would be so doomed.
(Am assembling a collection of animals that I will need to translate into High Thirian.)
And I’ve figured out the distinction between elk, caribou, and moose. And red deer. Goodness. Knew there was a difference, didn’t know what it was.
… I should really make a separate Tumblr for my conworlding/conlanging babbles. To keep it tidy and keep from pestering those of my followers who are uninterested. And its done! Welcome aboard, me hearties. There’s actually a group of Red Deer on a Scottish island that kill and eat baby birds in order to stave off calcium deficits. :D
Legit? That is EXCELLENT. xD
Carnivorous cervids. *snickers*
Well, okay, omnivorous, technically, but details.
